Let's Get Started

I’m going to be honest, starting a blog feels a little 2007. In the era where Instagram rules king, long-winded posts might not be the most popular medium, but here we are.

In an effort to somehow connect my one million and one different interests, I decided to write about them. Things are uncertain right now (to say the least), and I’m finding it more and more important to really lean into the things I love: nature, sustainability, fashion, plants, interior decorating and design, and so much more. Instead of overwhelming myself with my different side projects—which nearly always leads to my being paralyzed when having to decide what to work on first—I’m going to plop them all here on this page, and maybe some of you will enjoy coming along with me, figuring things out one day at a time, coffee in hand.

Now that we’ve got the nitty gritty out of the way, allow me to introduce myself: I’m Katie, yet another 20-something living in Brooklyn, making the most of life on a small paycheck. I recently moved into a new apartment, finally making myself a proper home in this wild city. I’ve got plants in nearly every square inch of my apartment, and I can guarantee you will find just as many fabric scraps or threads hanging around the place, too. My mornings can’t start until I’ve had my cup of coffee and listened to The Daily (thank you, Michael Barbaro), but I’m not really a morning person—hence the name “Spilled Coffee Chronicles.”

I’ve had my fair share of spills, coffee in hand, ranging from the running-too-fast-in-the-hallway spill to the putting-the-lid-on-my-too-full-cup geyser. This clumsiness has become a part of my character, and I’m trying to embrace that accidents are a big part of my life—both literally and emotionally. In terms of the literal accidents, though: I’ve gotten really good at coffee stain removal.

So, here’s to the messiness in life and the confusion it brings.

Cheers,

Katie
